Maupin event to fund memorial grants

Net proceeds from the $50-a-plate dinner-dance, which will feature entertainment from Italian singer Romina Arena, will be split 40 ways, with each of the 40 families who have lost a loved one in war designating a school to administer its scholarship money.

June Izzi-Bailey, a friend of the Maupins who is organizing the fundraiser, said the Center will try to raise more money with another effort tied to the dinner-dance. Area supporters, Izzi-Bailey said, are being asked to send the Yellow Ribbon Support Center their business cards with a donation of at least $10.

The business cards will be mounted on a wall at the event. Stars will be placed on some business cards at random. Those with stars on their cards will win dinner at local restaurants. The Center is seeking out restaurants willing to donate a gift certificate.
